To spiritually prepare for his 12-hour performance piece Dark Night Live, tap dancer Andrew Nemr invited pastor Mike Freeman for a journey. Together they would read St. John of the Cross’s Dark Night of the Soul and discuss. Over the course of 12 sessions Andrew and Mike enter into conversation with each other and with the text. Together they share personal experiences and insights, inspire one another, and hold space for the journey through the Dark Night.

Andrew Nemr is an international artist, teacher, and speaker. His work has crossed the music, dance, theatre, and visual arts worlds, exploring art as a vehicle for storytelling and individual and communal formation. Described as “A masterly tapper” by the New York Times, Andrew has been recognized with numerous awards, grants, and commissions, is the topic of the award-winning documentary short film Identity: The Andrew Nemr Story, and is the founder of the Nemr Institute.
Mike Freeman has been engaged in pastoral ministry and counseling for going on five decades and is currently a staff pastor at the Vineyard in Boise where he writes and narrates the daily devotional podcast Green Pastures. Mike is a total Bible and book nerd, movie and Civil War buff, reads and teaches biblical languages, is a cancer survivor since 2012, and is an avid dancer (couples, line and pattern dancing to country or just about anything) with his lifelong wife and partner, LaWayne, with whom he shares five children and seven grandchildren who are the joy of their life.
